The Reverend Clergy

Esteemed Members of the Parish Councils, Philoptochos Societies,

Faculty & Students of the Catechetical and Greek Afternoon Schools,

Directors and Participants of all Youth Organizations, and all devout

Orthodox Christians of the Greek Orthodox Communities of our Holy Metropolis of New Jersey

Beloved in the Lord,

In a few weeks, our Holy Orthodox Church will be entering the Fasting period in preparation of our Lord’s Nativity. It is a most special time of year in our Church in which the Faithful prepare themselves spiritually to receive the King of Glory into their hearts and into their personal “mangers.” In our contemporary society, this time of year also coincides with the festive Thanksgiving Day celebrations as well as the shopping and holiday season of Christmas.

Regrettably, many of our Christian brethren do not have the financial means to celebrate the holidays as most Americans do. More importantly however, the season before us also affords us the opportunity to be thankful for the manifold blessings that we have received from above, and to be mindful of our Christian responsibility to spread the good tidings of God’s blessings to all. Our Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey Philoptochos stands ready once again this year to meet the needs of those who so desperately need a little something extra this season.

To this end, I ask that a special tray be passed on Sunday, November 20, 2005, for the sole purpose of benefiting the Social Services and Philanthropic Programs of our Holy Metropolis of New Jersey Philoptochos Society. Checks should be made payable to the Metropolis of New Jersey Philoptochos Society and should be forwarded to the Metropolis Headquarters.

Your generous gifts of love and genuine concern will assist the needy, especially the young children living in poverty, with the basic necessities for the Holiday Season. Be assured that your act of kindness will be blessed and multiplied from above.

Thanking all of you for your most generous and caring gifts of love, I remain

                                                                 With Paternal Love and Blessings,
