His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey hosted an elegant reception at the Metropolis Headquarters in Kenilworth, New Jersey, on Monday, September 11, 2006, to mark the New Academic Year for Greek Education.
At the invitation of His Eminence, Clergy, Parish Council Presidents, Presidents of the Community School Committees and Directors and Faculty of the Metropolis Greek Afternoon Schools gathered in a festive atmosphere for an evening filled with joyful fellowship and optimism for a productive year for Greek Education in the Holy Metropolis of New Jersey.
His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos presided over the traditional Agiasmos service held to bless the New Ecclesiastical and Academic Year. His Eminence was assisted by the Chancellor of the Metropolis, Rev. Protopresbyter Anargyros Stavropoulos, V. Rev. Archimandrite George Nikas, Chief Secretary of the Metropolis and Mr. Hippocratis Polemis, Protopsaltis of the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John the Theologian in Tenafly, NJ. Following the service, His Eminence blessed all of those present, praying that the forthcoming academic year be one of fruitful progress and high quality.
In his remarks, Metropolitan Evangelos stressed the paramount importance that Greek Education holds in the life of the Orthodox Church and in particular, in the lives of our children. Welcoming especially the Greek Afternoon School Teachers, with much paternal love and enthusiasm, His Eminence reminded all that their task of educating our young people was a sacred one. Furthermore, His Eminence exhorted the Teachers to remain steadfast in their noble goal of firmly planting the seeds of love for our Hellenic language and heritage in the minds and hearts of today’s generation of children, despite the multifarious challenges that exist.
